No publicity in my mailbox, please!

no publicity, please!

no publicity, please!

Are you also tired of getting unsolicited publicity in your mailbox? Don’t you already know all the pizza and Thai food deliveries that exist in your area? Are you concerned about all the flyers you take from your mail box and throw directly in your trash bin without even looking at them? Although I hope you are recycling all pieces of paper, there is still a better way out.
In Sweden, it is very common habit to put a sign by your mailbox saying “No publicity, please”. We had some fun making a nice colored sign, cutting out letters from magazines and pasting them together to form the sentence. I remember we tried the same when living in Paris. There, it was less common to have such a sign, but we tried anyway. Some fliers came in the box despite the sign, but we got rid of most of it. After a few months we were living there, the major of Paris sent a letter to all residents with stickers saying “Stop Pub” to put on the mailbox. That was fun!
We notice that about 5% of people living in the same building as us put it up. Not much, but still not bad at all, for being the beginning.

If you think this is not going to contribute much to the environment, keep reading here. Every household receives in average 40-60 Kg of paper per year in the form of junk/unsolicited mail.
If 1000 people put up the sign, it would save 40000 to 60000 tons of paper per year. Now think globally. We are talking about a huge amount of paper and trees that could be saved by simply putting up a sign on your mailbox. Sure you do not want to try?
